Ivy Hill's Global Network

Please consider becoming a source of information for our students and teachers. We want to learn from scientists, historians, gardeners, nurses, etc. We'd like to know what people from around the world are thinking and experiencing. We can't take field trips to visit all of you, but we'd love to import your knowledge, perspectives, and experiences! By providing the following information about you, our teachers and students will use this online database to connect with you in order to extend our learning about classroom content, skills, or student interests. Thank you for becoming a part of the Ivy Hill family. To participate, click here to add your information to the database.

The Dancing Pancake by Eileen Spinelli

I just finished a great book for girls in grades 3 and 4. It's called The Dancing Pancaking by Eileen Spinelli. Eleven-year-old Belinda "Bindi" Winkler and her family find their way through tough times with the love and support of the community that grows around their newly opened restaurant, "The Dancing Pancake." It's funny, touching, serious, and a quick read. Check it out in the LMC!

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

I just finished reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. What a wonderful book and laugh-out-loud funny!!

What is it about, you ask?
When Ivan, a gorilla who has lived for years in a down-and-out circus-themed mall, meets Ruby, a baby elephant that has been added to the mall, he decides that he must find her a better life.

I recommend it for boys and girls in grades 3 through 5. Enjoy!
