2nd Grade Research Project Update

Our 2nd grade students have finished gathering facts on a country of their choice. They have used the IIM method of note-taking and citing their sources. Today we sorted our facts and practiced determining importance. This week the students will select important facts to display on their T-chart and begin comparing those facts with the United States.

The Dancing Pancake by Eileen Spinelli

I just finished a great book for girls in grades 3 and 4. It's called The Dancing Pancaking by Eileen Spinelli. Eleven-year-old Belinda "Bindi" Winkler and her family find their way through tough times with the love and support of the community that grows around their newly opened restaurant, "The Dancing Pancake." It's funny, touching, serious, and a quick read. Check it out in the LMC!

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

I just finished reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. What a wonderful book and laugh-out-loud funny!!

What is it about, you ask?
When Ivan, a gorilla who has lived for years in a down-and-out circus-themed mall, meets Ruby, a baby elephant that has been added to the mall, he decides that he must find her a better life.

I recommend it for boys and girls in grades 3 through 5. Enjoy!
