Kindle Klub!


The LMC now has 6 Kindles! The first group of 4th graders are reading Because of Mr. Terupt on their Kindle and will meet after school on April 12th. The goals for the meeting will be:
1) Discuss the book
2) Discuss how it feels to read a book on an eReader
3) Participate in a word game.

Skype with China - Part 2

The 2nd graders got the opportunity to Skype with Mrs. Hynek's brother-in-law from China. He is an English teacher in Hong Kong. The students prepared questions for Mr. Hynek and had a wonderful learning experience.

LMC Happenings - Week of February 28th

Kindergarten:
The kindergarten students drew Abraham Lincoln's log cabin using the program Pixie. The learned how to use use shapes within their drawing and place stickers within their picture.
1st Grade:
The 1st graders watched a BrainPop movie on US Symbols and then worked with the Promethean Board and the Activote clickers to vote on the correct answer to questions displayed on the smart board. Each answer displayed a bar graph that the students analyzed.
5th Grade:
Classes are completing character webs on books they have read. They used the program, Inspiration, to display 3 character traits and supporting evidence.

Future Projects:
3rd Grade:
The teachers are planning a big research project on Chicago that will begin after spring break. Stay tuned to hear about further details.
4th Grade:
All 4th grade classes will begin research on Explorers of the New World. An exciting program called Glogster will be used to create an interactive poster online.
4th and 5th Grade ELL Students:
Beginning next week, these students will research the country and culture they are from and create an interactive poster online called Glogster. Video, images, and facts will be included on that poster.

The LMC is a busy place and wonderful projects are being created by our talented students!

Display Case

Thank you to Stephanie for displaying her homemade bracelet collection. They are beautiful!! Another thank you to Brian for bringing in his eraser collection for the display case. We loved all 40 of them!

Lunch Bunch!


Thank you to Lauren, Hayley, Aishwarya, Elle, Sami, Melissa, Kailin for spending their lunch recess discussing Those Shoes last Tuesday. Everyone enjoyed the book and would recommend it to their friends!

Comic Club and Kerpoof Club

Latest News in the LMC - Week of February 21, 2011

Kindergarten:
The kindergarten classes are creating Lincoln Log Cabins using Pixie. They are learning how to draw pictures using shapes and lines and how to move stickers into their drawings.

1st Grade:
The 1st graders are learning about U.S. Symbols in their classroom. They watched a BrainPop Jr. video on US Symbols and then participated in a Promethean (interactive white board) lesson. They were given clickers and voted on correct answers shown on the white board. A bar graph gave the results of the vote and was discussed with the class.

2nd Grade:
The 2nd grades finished up their China research projects. They viewed their Travel Logs and completed a rubric where they self-evaluated themselves. Stay tuned for their Read to Feed results and what animals they are going to purchase for villages in China!

3rd Grade:
The 3rd grade classes have begun voicethreads on Illinois. They are commenting on pictures that correspond to their learning in the classroom. They make these comments using text, voice recordings, and video. Check the classroom teachers' blogs for links to these voicethreads.
